Since the opening of my shoppe, I’ve had several guests both inquire and encourage me to sell my merchandise. As flattered as I have been that someone would find my handiwork worthy to ‘sell,’ I’ve kept my ‘promise’ and my gifts have been just that… gifts! I enjoy making and giving gifts, and I hesitate to involve the exchange of funds when it comes to gifts from the heart. I wouldn’t want the pleasure to be spoiled or soiled by money! =)
Lately, I’ve been working with hankies quite a bit, taking a vintage hankie that once bore the tears of a genteel lady and transforming it into an heirloom piece, such as a baby’s bonnet, a small purse, a child’s apron, envelope and drawstring fragrant sachets, etc. These projects become most beautiful when the hankie is a vintage hankie in good condition. They make wonderful heirloom gifts to pass on. Flowers from a wedding, a baby’s birth or a loved one’s funeral can be made into fragrant potpourri and stored in a lovely heirloom hankie. A baby bonnet one day becomes a wedding hankie for the bride or the groom. Two hankies can be transformed into a lovely drawstring purse for a child, for a wedding, or for a memento pouch.
I have decided to offer to render my services to those interested in preserving family memories and creating unique heirloom gifts. You provide the vintage hankie(s,) and request the item you desire, and for a token fee, I will create the gift for you! Simple as that! =) My fee would simply be to cover costs involved in extra pieces such as ribbons, buttons, potpourri, etc., as well as a little pocket change for the artisan! =)
